I realize I need to do it regularly to make it a habit, but that also makes it feel like it’s another to-do and not fun. Oh well, we’ll see what happens.

This weekend I finished Lights All Night Long by Lydia Fitzpatrick. It was for my August bookclub and while it’s not something I would normally pick up, I rather enjoyed it. This is the beauty of of a good bookclub, isn’t it?
The story is about two brothers from a small mining town in Russia. Ilya is very smart and Vladimir struggles with his seemingly hopeless situation of living in the middle of nowhere with no real opportunity. While Ilya comes to the USA as an exchange student, Vladimir is in jail for confessing to a murder. The book jumps back and forth from past to present and from Louisiana to Russia.
A couple of big stretches for my taste in tying everything together, but overall it was a lovely story.
Now moving on to my first Ursula LeGuin as I am picking The Dispossessed off my shelf. Looking forward to it – I have only heard good things.

The thing about blogging is that we can’t turn our joy into a job. I have sometimes let my reading slip away from me in the years since I began blogging. It’s hard to find a balance between the two, but the reward is great. I have found so many good books, and so much to discuss, with fellow blogging bibliophiles. I think you will find the joy, too.
